Professional Development

Development is key to all aspects of our work as professionals in higher education. We spend the majority of our days doing work that enhances the student experience and in order to continue to do this well we must take time to focus on our own career development.

Adult learning* is essential to on going career development. The purpose of this website is to serve as a forum for University of Illinois professionals to engage in career development and self improvement activities.

There are 2 areas to id in career development:

• Champaign-Urbana Connections: Local, on campus resources for staff development opportunities and experiences.
• Campus to Campus Connections: Links to conference websites and other national training websites that may benefit student affairs professionals.

*Adult learning is an ongoing process of self discovery and personal growth. Through meaningful experiences, practitioners develop new insights about ways he or she can make a positive impact on his or her environment. Through effective communication, information sharing, and reflective practice adults realize the importance of knowledge, acquiring new skills, and building upon existing strengths. The outward result is adults who use their abilities to encourage growth in themselves and others and initiate processes that create change in their environment.
